welcome

Welcome to Visual Voice Netsource.

I’ve been wanting to start this blog for a long time …

Life has been getting in the way — along with about 137 of my very best excuses — But, at last, here we go …

I’m happy to be starting this journey. It’s always exhilarating to start something new. And at this point, it really doesn’t matter how big an audience this blog may gain. I’m not going to agonize over SEO strategies and unpredictable algorithm changes and fluctuating page views.

I just know that this is what I’m supposed to do – and that is to provide compelling, helpful content for you and to make as valuable a contribution as I can to the visual communication community.

Visual Voice Netsource is a blog about visual communication and digital messaging for writers, graphic and web designers, and especially for students who want to pursue this fascinating field.

This blog is about more than a picture being worth a thousand words, though. It’s meant to be an exploration of the complex relationship between words and images — and words as images.

One of my favorite books as a child was a printing of Aesop’s Fables that had the most luscious, richly colored illustrations you can imagine, the likes of which I haven’t seen since. I can still see the frustrated fox looking up at grapes so juicy and succulent we both could taste them, could almost pluck them right off the page.  My mom taught me to read before I started elementary school and I believe that, from the beginning, I was intrigued by the ability of words to paint pictures in my mind, to be able to  taste foods the characters were eating, and to be able to hear the songs they sang and the tone of voice they used.

I have always been fascinated by the whole psychology of the written word combined with imagery and the responses those combinations elicit from the reader. I’m first and foremost a writer, but have found that graphic design is the creative space where the things I love most about writing and art come together, allowing me to create new worlds of interpretation and perspective. When I write, my source is always the imagery I see in my mind. Vision and voice always go hand in hand.

So my purpose in creating this blog is to provide information about visual communication – both to share my own thoughts and the expertise I have cultivated over the years, as well as to curate wisdom from other professionals in the field.

If you’re a writer or designer looking for some creative inspiration, some information that’s new or just new to you, some encouragement and confidence to pursue your craft and develop your own voice, and a community of like-minded artisans, then I hope you’ll help me make this a cool and comfortable place to hang out and talk. I’m serving digital chai lattes – enjoy! :o)

If you’re a student trying to decide if you want to pursue a career in writing, visual communication or digital media design, I’d like to help you find your path.

Netsource – means I’m hoping this blog will be your online go-to resource for compelling visuals – art and photography, graphic composition elements, writing tips, design facilitation, educational venues, great tutorials, current trends — my original content ideas plus anything I come across in my reading and research that I think will be helpful or interesting to you. Resources that can take us all to a higher level of write-design competence and a deeper level of understanding.

I hope you’ll join me in building a new and special community. Introduce yourself in the comments below and let me know how this blog can support you. My goal is to post weekly, so please subscribe to my RSS feed, sign up for my eList, follow me on social media. Need a refill on that latte?

Back soon,

–Blessings, Roz
